Statewide Social Media Director and Digital Content Administrator

Andrew Belanger serves as the statewide social media director and digital content administrator for the State of Michigan. In this role, Andrew oversees the state’s global social media program, designing, maintaining, and enforcing statewide social media policies and standards. He guides social strategies, guidelines and goals, best practices, training, and education, covering +700 accounts and +300 content authors connecting over 8 million followers. He has been featured in USA Today, the New York Times, the Washington Post, U.S. News World & Report, and more for his work in government social media. Andrew currently serves as the elected Government Social Media (GSM) Membership Council northeast representative, serving members in CT, DE, D.C., KY, IN, ME, MD, MA, MI, NH, NJ, NY, OH, PA, RI, VT, VA, WV, and he serves as co-chair on the GSM Membership Committee. As a former law enforcement officer, Andrew has an interest in crisis communications and humanizing government social media to expand constituent engagement. Andrew holds a master’s degree in higher adult learning and education from Michigan State University.
